Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said the officers who shot Jean Charles de Menezes at Stockwell Tube station last week would have thought they faced the risk of "certain death". They "clearly thought" they were dealing with a suicide bomber, and yet they still ran towards him, he said.
