Price Birch & Company (previously Franklin and Armfield), the largest slave dealers in the antebellum south situated on Duke Street, Alexandria, Virginia USA with access to the Potomac River. This photograph was taken in 1861 during the American Civil War, after the surrender it was used by Union Soldiers as a jail. The building was demolished in 1870, a building named 'Freedom House' now occupies the site.
