Prisoners in the Maximum Security Wing, in a tiny 6x9 cell, in 1978, of the New Mexico State Prison near Santa Fe. A few months after this picture was taken, these prisoners and others rioted, killing 32 other inmates.

Present governor Pia Sinha was appointed in that year and in the next two years she turned the prison around with a programme of improvements and support for inmates and infrastructure.
