Riaño is a municipality located in the province of León. It is a good starting point to discover the Cantabrian mountain range. Riaño is located very close to the slopes of the Picos de Europa. One has an altitude of 1148 metres. By Riaño passes the N-625, which leads to the Valley of Sajambre, is a good place to enjoy the mountain in all its splendour in the heart of the Picos de Europa, close to Asturias and Cantabria. Pictured looking the Riaño reservoir, this water is collected in the rio Esla, one of the rivers of Spain taxed to the Duero. For the Romans it was the River of the astures, what they referred to as Astura.
