Military sources in the south-east Asian country said tonight that mine clearance expert Howes, 36, from Bristol, is "weak and very thin, but safe". Mr Howes and his interpreter Houn Hourth - who is also said to have been freed - were among a group of mine clearers from the British-based Mines Advisory Group who were abducted close to the Angkor temples tourist attraction in March.
