"Azure a cross patonce between five martlets or, and on a chief or, a pale quarterly of France modern and England between two roses gules." This means a gold cross on a blue background with five martlets (birds that never land), which are the arms attributed to Edward the Confessor. At the top of the shield are the Royal arms between two Tudor roses.
