The peckish bird is flanked by faces and green foliage on adjacent capitals. Above is a sculpted figure of a seated Saint Nicholas. This Late Romanesque / Early Gothic cathedral, built in the late 1100s / early 1200s AD, was given back its original exuberant and colourful appearance through restoration work in the 1960s and ‘70s, with colours determined by traces of original paint.
