The sculpted figure of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo honors the man who led the first European expedition to what is now the West Coast of the United States. Built for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, the California Building is located at the entrance to Balboa Park and houses the San Diego Museum of Man.
