Sedona, Arizona beautiful red rock landscape panorama. Sedona is a city and tourist destination in the northern Verde Valley region of the State of Arizona. The main attraction is its desert red sandstone formations. The red rocks form a popular backdrop for many activities, ranging from spiritual pursuits to the hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails. First human presence was over 10, 000 years ago. The first Anglo settler, John J. Thompson, moved to Oak Creek Canyon in 1876. It was develop as a tourist destination, vacation home and retirement center in the 1950s. In 1956, construction of the Chapel of the Holy Cross was completed. Famous for it's location built into the red rock cliffs above the city. The area has been used in numerous western type movies.
