Sep 10, 2007 - Manhattan, NY, USA - A pre-WWII subway train, made up of historic R1 cars, rolls into the 207th Street subway station to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the A Train and IND (Independent Subway Services) subway opening in Manhattan, NY, on Monday, September 10, 2007. The six-car, Army green train, featuring 1932 model cars with ceiling fans and wicker seats, was placed into customer service for a single round-trip ride from 207th Street to Chambers Street. The A train, a NYC icon, began service on September 10, 1932. The Eighth Avenue subway's original run stretched a little over 12 miles from 207th Street, in the Inwood section of Manhattan, to Lower Manhattan's Hudson Terminal (Chambers Street).
