Soldiers of the Confederacy - part of the Southern Skirmishers Re-enactment Group from the Southampton area of Hampshire who perform scenes from the American Civil War. It is unusual to see a re-enactment of the American Civil War (although the group were formed in 1968), however, there is a connection between the UK and the war in that 50, 000 British fought in the war and the British Government of the time were sympathetic to the Confederate cause. The Confederate currency was produced at Wookey Hole in Somerset. The group live the part even after the re-enactments in the arena have finished with the Union and Confederates encamped in separate areas. Here the Confederate soldiers have have defeated and routed the Union army in a mock skirmish.
