St Oswald's Church at Heavenfield near Hexham and Chollerford in Northumberland is the on the site of a dark ages battle which is now on the route of the Hadrians Wall long distance path and St. Oswald’s Way which runs from Holy Island (Lindisfarne) down the Northumberland coast, before heading inland to Heavenfield and the line of Hadrian’s Wall a distance of 97 miles (156 km). St. Oswald was a King of Northumbria in the early 7th Century, who played a major role in bringing Christianity to the area.
