The competition takes its name from the last and bloodiest engagement of the Korean War for the Canadians, when the 3rd RCR Soldiers found themselves overrun during the night of May 2nd to 3rd, in 1953, on Hill 187, and platoon leader Hollyer was forced to call for indirect fire on their own position. Exercise Viking Talon and Hill 187 provided an opportunity in the ongoing effort to build upon partnership between the 82nd Abn. Div. and the 3rd RCR. (82nd Airborne Division photo by Staff Sgt.
