The United States Air Force replaced its aging T-6 Texan trainers with the T-28 Trojan. The prototype XT-28 flew in 1949 and production began in 1950. The T-28 was also used by the Navy and Marine Corps. Modified T-28's with six underwing hard-points, allowing it to carry weapons, saw combat action in Southeast Asia and North Africa and was known as the AT-28D. The French converted T-28D's into Fennecs. The career of the T-28 ended with the introduction of the T-34 turboprop trainer, but they are still found flying around the world.
