More information:

One of the most outstanding examples of Anglo-Saxon architecture in England, the Church of St Mary nestles in the folds of the South Downs National Park in West Sussex at Sompting. The most notable feature is the Rhenish Helm / Rhineland Helmet of the tower. The church is mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086 although the original construction date is unknown. In the background the urban coastal strip is visible with Lancing being the nearest settlement to this ancient old church and the village of Sompting.
