The Exercise Tiger memorial US Sherman Tank at Torcross carpark, by Slapton Sands. The memorial was instigated by the late Ken Small who engineered the recovery and placement of the US tank. During WWII the Slapton Sands beach was used to practice D-Day landings for the invasion of the codenamed Utah beach in Normandy. During these landing rehearsals the beach was the scene of a tragic incident, which culminated in the loss of nearly one thousand American servicemen.
