The Flouch Inn was a renowned landmark at the major road junction in South Yorkshire now the subject of a demolition proposal According to David Hey's 'A History of Penistone and District' "the inn was originally known as the New Inn when it was completed in 1827, but then became known as the Flouch." He suggests that it acquired its present name after the New Inn was renamed the Plough and in due course some of the paint peeled off the first and fifth letters of the pub sign and it humorously becme known as the Flouch.
