The demolition of the former Greenwich District Hospital has left a 3-hectare site now described as 'The Heart of East Greenwich'. This is to be developed with a mixed use of residential, retail/commercial, new leisure & health centres, new council offices and a library. It is to be London's first major carbon neutral development and will include on-site generation of heat and power through a combination of a biomass-fuelled co-generation plant, thermal storage, ground source heat pumps and photovoltaics.
