The Iron Bridge was built in 1834-1835 and considerably eased entry into the city from the North, into North Street, especially for horse-drawn vehicles and pack trains travelling from North Devon. It was manufactured in sections at a foundry at Blaina Ironworks in Wales (Russell and Brown's) and transported to Exeter by Ship (using the canal).
