The Mary Rose was King Henry the Eighth battle flagship, built in Portsmouth, and launched in 1511. She sank during an engagement with a French invasion fleet in 1545 just two kilometres from the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour. She was raised from the seabed in the Solent in 1982 and preserved at The Mary Rose museum in Portsmouth's historic dock yard.
