HMS Kent is one of the newest of the Type 23 frigates within the Royal Navy arsenal. Built by BAE Systems’ Scotstoun Shipyard on the Clyde, she was launched on 27 May 1998 by Princess Alexandra of Kent. HMS Kent had an extensive £24M refit in 2011 installing SONAR 2087, 4.5 MOD1 Medium Range Gun, Automatic 30mm Guns to mention a few upgrades, maintaining her cutting edge technology and flexibility to conduct a multitude of tasks such as Anti-Submarine, Anti-Piracy, Peacekeeping or Humanitarian missions. The Ships' Company recently successfully completed Basic Operational Sea Training and will soon conduct a multinational naval exercise which is all part of preparations for an operational deployment in 2013.
