The Ruriden memorial hall at the Koukoko-ji temple on February 11, 2016 in Tokyo, Japan. In a country with an ageing population and a premium on space it is a modern collective tomb. Inside the hexagonal mausoleum there are over 2000 glass Buddhas lit by LED lights. Behind the Buddhas are compartments to store the ashes of the deceased. The light display changes color and pattern according to the season and time, and using a card reader system visitors can touch their card and display will change to indicate the Buddha representing their deceased. © Martin Hladik/AFLO/Alamy Live News
