The Arabic phrase Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem - `In the name of God, most Gracious, most Compassionate` - is a poetic expression which offers both insight and inspiration. Said to contain the true essence of the entire Qur'an, as well as the true essence of all religions, the expression is so magnificent and so concise that all but one chapter of the Qur'an begins with the words. Muslims repeat `the Bismillah` before embarking on any significant endeavour and to give thanks notably before starting a meal.
