Our Lady, initially built as a mausoleum for queen Louise-Marie, wife of Leopold I, whose children included Leopold II of Belgium and Empress Carlota of Mexico. The architect was Joseph Poelaert, designer of the famed Brussels Palace of Justice. The church contains the royal crypt, where the members of the Belgian Royal Family are buried. This photo : Left grave : Louis-Philippe, Crown Prince of Belgium (24 July 1833 - 16 May 1834) was the eldest child and heir-apparent of Leopold I of Belgium and his second wife, Princess Louise d'Orléans. Center grave : Carlota of Mexico, born Charlotte of Belgium (Marie Charlotte Amélie Augustine Victoire Clémentine Léopoldine; 7 June 1840 - 19 January 1927), empress consort of Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico, the former Archduke of Austria. Right grave : Prince Leopold Emmanuel Jean Marie of Liechtenstein (Brussels, 20 May 1984 Brussels, 20 May 1984) died on the very same day he was born and is buried at the Royal Crypt in Brussels as his father Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein was the Ambassador of Liechtenstein in Belgium at the time.
