The Second Caledonian Railway Bridge was built to take thirteen rail tracks into Glasgow Central Station in 1905. The Engineers were Donald A.Matheson & Sir John Wolfe Barry. It replaced the 1878 four-track First Caledonian Railway Bridge, of which one of four granite pillars with the inscription 'Greatness stands firm in the storm' in Greek and in English.
