Trevor Phillips, the new Chair of the Commission for Racial Equality, meets members of staff in London. * Broadcaster and London Assembly chairman Trevor Phillips was appointed chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality after the organisation's former head, Gurbux Singh, resigned last summer after a drunken row with a policeman outside Lord's cricket ground. Mr Phillips said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the CRE in its twin tasks of helping to bring all our diverse communities together and in rooting out racism and discrimination in all its forms.
