VENICE, THE MOLO FROM THE BACINO DI SAN MARCO WITH THE PIAZZETTA AND THE PALAZZO DUCALE by Giovanni Antonio Canal, called Canaletto, one of a pair of Venetian scenes by the artist done at the height of his powers, probably in the 1720s, sold for 5,061,500 at Sotheby's in London tonight (Wednesday). They showed views of the Grand Canal and were bought by a telephone bidder. The pictures were the top lot in a sale of Old Masters, which made a record 28.6 million, the highest total since the Old Master market peaked in 1989. See PA Story SALE Canaletto. PA Photos.
