Standing almost 75 metres tall and visible from much of the lower Clyde, the Victoria Tower is the focal point of Greenock's municipal buildings (council headquarters). Constructed in 1886 to a competition winning design by architects H & D Barclay, the tower highlighted Greenock's victorian prosperity by bettering the height of the tower of Glasgow City Chambers. This view is from Cathcart Square, looking throught the intricate wrought ironwork of the memorial fountain standing centrally in the square.
