Volvo Ocean Race- Mapfre and Turn the Tide on Plastic team yachts moored at Victoria Harbour, Melbourne, Australia, 28 December 2017. The Volvo Ocean Race is a round the world yacht race which currently takes place every three years. It was first staged in 1973-74 and the race has had 12 editions to date. The 2017-18 race started in Alicante, Spain in October 2017 and is scheduled to finish in The Hague, Netherlands in June 2018. There are seven sailing teams taking part in the 2017-18 race featuring international sailors and businesses. The route will cross four oceans and take in 12 major cities: Alicante, Lisbon, Cape Town, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Auckland, Itajaí, Newport RI, Cardiff, Gothenburg and The Hague. The teams arrived in Melbourne just prior to Christmas in 2017 and left for leg four of the race to Hong Kong on 2 January 2018.
