This image is exclusive to Alamy Cromford Mill was the first water-powered cotton spinning mill. It was developed by Richard Arkwright in 1771 in Cromford, Derbyshire, England, and was the blueprint for mills in Lancashire, Germany and the United States. It forms the centre piece of the Derwent Valley Mills which is a World Heritage Site. The buildings now house a visitor centre, cafe, shop and exhibition spaces for artists.
