Yeast cells. Coloured scanning electron micrograph(SEM) of cells of brewer's yeast (Saccharomycescerevisiae). This fungus consists of singlevegetative cells. Small daughter cells can be seenbudding off from the larger cells. Once they havereached their full size, the daughter cells willbe indistinguishable from the mother cells. S.cerevisiae ferments sugar, producing alcohol andcarbon dioxide in the process. It is used in theproduction of beer, wine and bread. Magnification:x3000 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
