U.S. dollar coin, minted in 1972 and still in circulation, with the word "liberty" and profile of past president Dwight D. Eisenhower, in fold of black leather wallet. This photo may prove useful in media coverage of the debate (which gained momentum in 2011) as to whether the United States should phase out printing of dollar bills, thereby eliminating the expense of frequent print runs to replace damaged or worn-out cash, and instead mint many more dollar coins, which last much longer than paper bills. The lightness and convenience of dollar bills, which the American public still prefers, will be compared to the durability of coins you can drop into vending machines and toll booths, and which last many decades in circulation.
