The Infante Ferdinand of Portugal (1188-1233), Count of Flanders (1215-1233), was taken prisoner at the Battle of Bouvines on 27 July 1214. The battle fought between an international coalition formed by troops of the Count of Flanders, Raynald of Dammartin (Count of Boulogne), King John of England and the Holy Roman Emperor Otto IV, against the army of King Philip II Augustus of France. The French army defeated the coalition.
