The spectacular bustling harbour scene which is the centrepoint for Luca Carlevarijs (1663 -1730) masterpiece entitled 'A Capriccio of a Mediterranean Seaport' which was sold today (Friday) by Chritie's to an anonymous telephone bidder for a record 1,651,500. It's estimate was only 250,000 - 350,000, and the new price is the highest ever paid for a work by Carlevarijs, the founder of the great 18th century Venetian school of view painting.
