A 1960s advert for Phurnacite solid-fuel ‘eggs’ designed for domestic appliances for cooking ranges, home heating and hot water. The advert appeared in a magazine published in the UK in October 1962. A photograph shows contented man in a dressing gown reading his newspaper. Coke is natural coal which has been heated in a closed container so that the oily and smoky matter is driven off. Hard metallurgical smokeless cokes (like Phurnacite) are extremely clean burning.
