Somerset House, Halifax, Calderdale, 1942. A detailed view of a plaster panel in Somerset House, illustrating Aesop's Fable, the Fox and the Stork. Somerset House originally consisted of a town house and two warehouses, which have since been used as a bank, commercial, residential and local authority residencies. The house dates to 1766 and the warehouses to c1780, and all have undergone 19th and 20th century alterations. The buildings form three sides around a forecourt in the south.
