Vologases was the son of Vonones II, a prince from the northern kingdom of Media Atropatene who was possibly the ruler of the Parthian Empire for a few months. Vologases became King of Kings in 51, established the Vologasids or the House of Vologases I, a branch of the Arsacid Dynasty. He invaded the Kingdom of Armenia in 53, and waged an unsuccessful war against the Romans. Near the end of his reign, the nomadic Alans invaded the empire and plundered the northern kingdoms. He died in 78.
