The Civilian Evacuation Scheme in Britain during the Second World War Malvern College, a boarding school school for boys, was evacuated to Blenheim Palace, near Oxford, for the duration of the war. The state rooms at Blenheim were converted into dormitories which are also used as classrooms. The boys are seen in a lesson seated on their beds underneath a precious tapestry depicting a famous Marlburian battle scene. Because of the value of many of the works of art and antiques in the rooms, ink was not used in school classes with all work being done in pencil.
