A history of Virginia for boys and girls . much fighting took place around Winchesterand the town changed hands so often from firstto last that, it is said, the people of Winchesternever knew, when they got up in the morning, which side was in control. They always had tolook out and see which flag was flying before theycould be certain. Berryville, in the adjoiningcounty of Clarke, used to be called Battletown.Winchester, it would seem, might fairly have beena rival for that title. But in this connection when we speak of thebattle of Winchester we mean the large-scaleengagement that took place Stock Photohttps://www.alamy.com/image-license-details/?v=1https://www.alamy.com/a-history-of-virginia-for-boys-and-girls-much-fighting-took-place-around-winchesterand-the-town-changed-hands-so-often-from-firstto-last-that-it-is-said-the-people-of-winchesternever-knew-when-they-got-up-in-the-morningwhich-side-was-in-control-they-always-had-tolook-out-and-see-which-flag-was-flying-before-theycould-be-certain-berryville-in-the-adjoiningcounty-of-clarke-used-to-be-called-battletownwinchester-it-would-seem-might-fairly-have-beena-rival-for-that-title-but-in-this-connection-when-we-speak-of-thebattle-of-winchester-we-mean-the-large-scaleengagement-that-took-place-image338271746.html
