William Shakespeare is an English playwright, actor and poet, who was born in Stratford-upon-Avon on 23.4. (baptized on 25.4.) 1564, he died on 23.4.1616. His background and his life are largely unknown. Previously assumed details regarding his life (father a member of the glove makers guild in Stratford, marriage in 1582) were not yet confirmed by recent research. Starting 1589 he stayed in London, from 1594 he belonged to the theater group the Chamberlain's Men (since 1603 King's Men), where he remained during his entire theatrical career.
