The 'Marching Song of the First Arkansas Colored Regiment' was an American Civil War-era song with lyrics attributed to the regiment's white officer, Captain Lindley Miller. In the song, black soldiers fighting in the Union army brag that they will beat the Confederates, leaving behind "hoeing cotton" and "hoeing corn." A 1904 colour portrait of Curley (or Curly - circa 1856–1923) the Crow American Indian scout who witnessed and survived the Battle of theLittle Big Horn in 1876.
