Artists and models in the Royal Academy of Arts (RA) during the 18th Century. The success of William Hogarth in using the Foundling Hospital to provide an early venue for contemporary artists in Britain, led to the formation of the Society of Artists of Great Britain and the Free Society of Artists. Both these groups were primarily exhibiting societies marred by internal factions among the artists. There will be much laughter at the Royal Society of Arts during the next fortnight, when examples of humour Art through the ages are being exhibited. No similar exhibition of this nature seems to have been held in this country before, but there was one in Paris in 1911. It is certainly the first of its kind to be held by the Royal Society of Arts, which has been conducting exhibits since 1760, when it held the first exhibition in England of the works of contemporary artist. - Photograph shows: Bruce Bairnsfather Shall I put some nice rich brown gravy on it Bill? - Photo taken 10 July 1949 Stock Photohttps://www.alamy.com/image-license-details/?v=1https://www.alamy.com/there-will-be-much-laughter-at-the-royal-society-of-arts-during-the-next-fortnight-when-examples-of-humour-art-through-the-ages-are-being-exhibited-no-similar-exhibition-of-this-nature-seems-to-have-been-held-in-this-country-before-but-there-was-one-in-paris-in-1911-it-is-certainly-the-first-of-its-kind-to-be-held-by-the-royal-society-of-arts-which-has-been-conducting-exhibits-since-1760-when-it-held-the-first-exhibition-in-england-of-the-works-of-contemporary-artist-photograph-shows-bruce-bairnsfather-shall-i-put-some-nice-rich-brown-gravy-on-it-bill-photo-taken-10-july-1949-image355277676.html
