Petroleum Weapons Against Invasion- a Demonstration of Anti-invasion Defences, UK, 1945 A demonstration of 'Fougasse', somewhere in Britain. A group of flame-throwing tanks can be seen lined up on the left hand side of the photograph. They are firing across a river or waterway. A large cloud of smoke can be seen, rising up from the columns of fire. The original caption states that this weapon 'released one ton of burning oil when fired. Developed by the Petroleum Warfare Department in the summer of 1940, it was installed within three weeks of the conception of the idea'.
