Humphrey of Lancaster, 1st Duke of Gloucester, (1390 – 1447) was an English nobleman. He was the youngest son of King Henry IV, brother of King Henry V and uncle of Henry VI. During the 100 Years War, he gained a reputation as a successful commander. Upon the death of Henry V, in 1422 Humphrey became Lord Protector to his young nephew Henry VI. He unsuccessfully claimed the right to the regency of England following the death of his elder brother, John, Duke of Bedford, in 1435.
