WW II - February 1936 Nazi Pomp and Circumstance. Gauleiter Julius Streicher spoke at the 'opening of the Third Craft Competitions of the Province of Franconia on the Adolf Hitler Square, Nurnberg, German Worker's Front, Franconia.' The city's public square was entirely filled with neat rows of uniformed men and boys. Swastika flags and banners dominated the view. Note the flaming cauldron just left of top center. Kristallnacht or 'Crystal Night', also referred to as the Night of Broken Glass, was a pogrom against Jews throughout Nazi Germany and Austria that took place on 9–10 November 1938, carried out by SA (Sturmabteilung or Brownshirts) paramilitary forces and German civilians. Adolf Hitler and Max Schmeling looking at the sports section of the newspaper. Despite Schmeling's distance to the Nazis, he could not avoid being misused by them for propaganda purposes, because as a popular sportsman he was an ideal projection figure for them. After he had refused to separate from his Czech wife and his Jewish adviser he let himself be used for advertising purposes for the Olympic Games in Berlin.
