A late 19th Century illustration of Joan of Arc (1412-1431), aka 'The Maid of Orléans', heroine of France for her role during the Hundred Years' War, for which she was later canonized as a saint. Joan said she saw visions of saints instructing her to support Charles VII and recover France from English domination. Would be French King Charles VII sent Joan to the siege of Orléans as part of a relief army following which the siege was lifted only nine days later.
