Sri Lanka: Kandyan aristocrat John Henry Meedeniya (1867-1931), also known as J. H. Meedeniya Adigar, with his family in 1905. In 1592 Kandy became the capital city of the last remaining independent kingdom in Sri Lanka after the coastal regions had been conquered by the Portuguese.
