RMERC8JC–1500s 1567 MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS AS A PRISONER IN LOCH LEVEN CASTLE BEFORE HER ESCAPE
Loch Leven Castle, from Kinros, engraved by S. Lacey. This is from an engraving dating from 1832 made from a watercolour drawing by Thomas H. Shepherd (1793-1864). At the time, 1832, William IV was king, some five years before Queen Victoria ascended to the throne. This and others which I have in the series were used to illustrate the architectural likenesses between Athens and Edinburgh (Scotland) and its environs at the time. Note: Some of the originals had foxing which may show as slightly darker patches in the photos.
