1962 - Elephant A 27 year old female elephant known as Diksi has died in London Zoo after falling into the moat which separates the elephant paddock from spectators. Diksi, a four ton elephant of the African variety, was apparently nudged into the five foot deep ditch by another behemoth as they competed for a peanut held out by an admirer.
