Founded in 1829 in Kyoto by Iida Shinshichi as a retailer of used clothing and cotton cloth, the company opened its 7 story Sakaisuji store in 1922 (Taisho 11). In 1932 (Showa 7), Takashimaya moved into the former premises of Matsuya department store in Nipponbashi, where it is still located today. 20th century vintage postcard.
